Happy holidays, DC! Revel in holiday merriment with friends and family this week at the National Building Museum’s indoor skating rink, catch a free holiday concert at Union Station, or sing along to Handel’s “Messiah” at the Kennedy Center.   Best Things to Do This Week and Weekend Decembe r 22–28 Winter Skate Spectacular. Skate with the family inside the grandiose National Building Museum this winter. The museum’s Great Hall will be transformed into a glowing skating rink where all ages can glide around; there’s themed go-go and Y2K music nights, too (Sat-February 8, $20 for adults, $17 for youth and seniors, Penn Quarter). The Stage at Union Station. Dating back to the ’90s, Norway and the US have commemorated their strong friendship with the lighting of a Norwegian Christmas tree. The lofty tree graces the train station’s Main Hall, with mini flags honoring both Norway and the United States. In addition to the festive sapling, there are massive wreaths around the facade of the station, and free concerts from groups such as District Strings and Randolph Strings (Tues, December 30, free, Union Station). Messiah Sing-Along at the Kennedy Center. The Kennedy Center Opera House Orchestra, along with guests, continues the tradition of playing Handel’s “Messiah” live. If you have family and friends in town for the holidays, you can head to Nationals Park’s wintry playground where all ages can play on illuminated LED seesaws and glowing curling lanes, and see a Northern Lights-inspired pop-up. Inside the new frosted ballpark experience, there’s a six-lane snow-tubing hill, train rides, a sculpture garden displaying local artworks, and a hidden speakeasy where adults can warm up with cocktails (through December 30, $29.50, Nationals Park).
