RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- Eggnog is a divisive holiday drink -- but which side of the debate does Virginia fall on? Instacart took a look at eggnog buying habits during December 2024 to determine how much each U.S. state loves -- or hates -- this festive beverage. According to the report, Virginia ns buy 35% more eggnog than the average American. Its neighbors have a diverse range of opinions. West Virginia buys 43% over the national average, while Maryland buys 3% less eggnog than the national average. North Carolina toes the line with a rate 5% higher than the typical American. Virginia among top 10 ‘Grinchiest’ states Eggnog's biggest hater is Florida, which buys eggnog 62% less than the national average. By contrast, New Hampshire is full of eggnog fanatics, coming in at a whopping 100% higher rate. “Eggnog is one of those holiday staples that is deeply associated with Christmas time, and also surprisingly polarizing,” said Alex Orellana, Instacart’s Trends Analyst, in the report. “It’s fascinating to see how much enthusiasm builds around it each December, especially in New England, where the tradition clearly runs deep.
