BLM, LGBTQ+ signs vandalized at Saratoga church
Dec 13, 2025
(KRON) -- Westhope Presbyterian Church in Saratoga has been targeted by repeated acts of vandalism this year, aimed at its messages of inclusion.
Signs supporting Black Lives Matter and the LGBTQ+ community have been torn down or stolen from the church's property, according to church leaders.
Past
or Eric Swanson of Westhope Presbyterian Church stated, "Yeah — it looks like somebody with a sweatshirt on and a backpack dipped into our property — tore it down and took off."
The church, located along Saratoga Avenue, has long been known for its inclusive and welcoming stance. Recently, it has become the center of a vandal's work, with signs supporting marginalized communities being vandalized or stolen.

Pastor Swanson mentioned that the incidents have occurred three times this year, with the most recent happening just last month. Black Lives Matter signs posted on a fence at the entrance to the church parking lot were cut up and ripped down, and rainbow pride stickers placed on the church’s main sign were similarly vandalized.
In response to the vandalism, the church has ordered new signs and added a sign protesting the Trump administration's deportation policies. They also put up a sign directly addressing the person responsible for the vandalism, asking them to stop and inviting them to reach out by email for a conversation.
Swanson expressed his hope for peace and for the vandalism to stop, stating, "We would hope that you would stop the violence — stop the division — stop tearing down signs. You don’t have to go to those lengths."
The Santa Clara County Sheriff's Office has responded to all three incidents and is taking reports of vandalism and suspected hate crimes very seriously. Pastor Swanson hopes for peace and an end to the vandalism.
