(KRON) -- When Osaka Marketplace opened its first location in Fremont in 2021, there were questions about how well the community would receive the East Bay's first Japanese supermarket. Four years later, Osaka Marketplace has become known in the Bay Area and satisfied the region's appetite for a g rocery store specializing in Japanese products. Next week, the supermarket officially opens its second Bay Area location in Foster City. Ahead of the Dec. 12 grand opening, KRON4 got an exclusive sneak peek inside the supermarket and a guided tour by Director Kazuhiro Takeda. See photos below. Takeda said some of the store's featured offerings are Japanese Wagyu beef, sashimi filet fish and a variety of grab-and-go meal boxes. He said his favorite is the seafood section, which offers ready-to-eat crab and newly imported items from Japan every week. Takeda said the name "Osaka Marketplace" is an ode to the major city in Japan. He said Osaka is known as a big "foodie" city in Japan. The goal of his grocery stores abroad is to emulate and give people a taste of Japan. Osaka Marketplace joins a shopping plaza with other Asian eateries: Ritha Indian Restaurant, Chinese restaurant Rickshaw Corner, Korean barbecue restaurant Warehouse Buffet and Quickly. Osaka Marketplace plans to open a third store in Pleasant Hill next summer. The Bay Area-founded chain plans to open 12 additional locations in the region over the next 10 years, Osaka Marketplace said in a news release. "This is very secret," Takeda said with a chuckle, declining to reveal any details when asked where he might open next. "I cannot."
