Fire in Fond du Lac displaces four residents, smoke detectors reportedly weren't functioning

FOND DU LAC, Wis. (WFRV) - The Fond du Lac Fire & Rescue Department responded to a reported house fire on Saturday afternoon, with four residents displaced as a result.
According to the release, crews were dispatched shortly after 2 p.m. and arrived to find smoke from the back of a four-unit
multi-family home at 156 West Division Street. The first was in the basement and quickly extinguished, but it spread to the first floor.

The kitchen area was significantly damaged and residents were home at the time; however, they escaped without injury. The cause is still unknown.
Fond du Lac Police helped with controlling the scene as Alliant Energy secured utilities. City officials shut off water in the home because of a broken basement pipe and the Red Cross assisted four displaced tenants.
The smoke detectors found inside were not working, as officials urge people to regularly check them and ensure proper functionality. ...read more read less
