APPLETON, Wis. (WFRV) - The nation's oldest 'Flag Day' Parade is just a few months and the deadline to apply is less than two weeks from now, with applications required by Tax Day, April 15. Appleton's Flag Day Parade has been around since 1950, and it annually honors a different military branch; however, this year's will be different and extra special. Tru by Hilton celebrates grand opening in Oshkosh "The theme is 'Honor, Courage, Commitment,' which is the motto of the Marine Corps and Navy," Appleton Parades Committee Chairperson Corey Otis said. "Both are celebrating their 250th birthdays this year, so we're going to put them in the spotlight and honor both branches." The parade annually gets over 50,000 viewers and participants from throughout the country. "Flag Day is a celebration and a great time to come out with friends, family, and neighbors to celebrate everything great about America," Otis said.
