Remembering the deadly EF4 tornado in Hampton County 5 years later

HAMPTON COUNTY, S.C. (WSAV) — Sunday marked five years since a deadly EF-4 tornado touched down in the Lowcountry.
Five people were killed and more than 60 were injured in Hampton County, which was hit the hardest by the tornado that stayed on the ground for 24 miles.
As an EF-4, the torn
ado had maximum winds of 175 miles per hour becoming the strongest tornado locally in over a decade and the first EF-4 on record in the Lowcountry.
The National Weather Service (NWS) said they determined the April 13 tornado to be the most powerful tornado strike in South Carolina in 25 years, since an EF-4 hit Marion County on November 7, 1995.
