I don’t know whether the Boysenberry French Toast at Knott’s Berry Farm is a breakfast dish, sandwich or dessert, but I’m positive of one thing: I instantly fell in love and it’s the best thing I ate at the Buena Park theme park this week. The Knott’s Boysenberry Festival runs through Apri l 27 with more than 80 dishes to the park drizzled, dipped and drenched in the signature fruit. But if you’re only going to order one thing to eat, I recommend the Boysenberry French Toast available at the Ghost Town Grub funnel cake stand. (Brady MacDonald/Orange County Register/SCNG) The Boysenberry French Toast belongs to the family of county fair stunt foods that takes a familiar food, dips the whole thing in batter and drops it in a deep fryer. The deep fried French toast stuffed with boysenberry cream cheese is delightfully doughy, delicate and jammy. Then the sandwich is dipped in an egg mixture like traditional French toast. The carnival twist: The French toast is deep fried rather than pan fried. The whole thing is covered in boysenberry pie filling and powdered sugar. The result is a light and airy treat with a crispy outer shell and plenty of boysenberry flavor.
