CharlotteMecklenburg Police announce major break in 1993 Christmas Day cold case

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – A major break in a sex assault cold case from Christmas Day 1993. Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police detectives have identified the suspect in that assault as 48-year-old Tony Leslie. Officers responded to a burglary and a sex assault at a home in the early morning hours of December
25, 1993.
The case went cold until 2022. That’s when detectives sent evidence to BODE Technology for analysis. They were able to identify Leslie as the suspect. He is currently serving a 13 year prison sentence for first-degree burglary convictions at Scotland County Correctional Institution.
Last month, Leslie pleaded guilty to first-degree burglary and was sentenced to an additional 14 years in prison to be served consecutively with his current sentence.
