San Diego weather today: Cool weather, shower chances continue
Apr 02, 2025
Our cool weather pattern will be sticking around the rest of the week with below-average daytime highs, gusty winds, big surf, and periods of light rain.
We had a few light showers on Tuesday, but the wind has been the bigger story. Some coastal areas had gusts of stronger than 35mph on Tuesday,
while the mountains saw gusts between 55-60mph.
After a wet March, southwestern California still only has about 50% of its normal rainfall for this time of year. Two storms will impact Southern California in the next couple of days.
In the last 24 hours, light scattered showers brought some very light rainfall west of the 15, with higher amounts over our mountains. As of 4 a.m., radar was still picking up some light rain, mainly away from the coast. We’ll continue to have off-and-on rainfall potential throughout the day, with the highest chances heading into this afternoon and evening.
There is a chance of thunderstorms and hail over our mountains through Thursday. Right now, the snow level is around 3,500-4,000 ft. and will rise to about 4,500-5,000 ft. this afternoon before lowering again tonight. Snowfall accumulation from Storm#1 could reach 1-3’’ around 4,000+ ft.
Wednesday will also see some pretty big surf, including 6 to 8 foot waves, and some sets to 10 feet at west-facing beaches. The surf should peak by 6 am Wednesday and then gradually decrease throughout the day. A HIGH SURF ADVISORY is in effect through noon Wednesday.
Shower chances arrive again starting late Wednesday night through Thursday. Showers should be light, adding up to less than 0.25″ in most places.
Friday into the weekend, the weather will be dry and warm. It will feel more like spring in Sa Diego.
