GEORGETOWN, Ky. (ABC 36 NEWS NOW) — A big cross which used to be on the wall at the front of Faith Baptist Church in Georgetown is now destroyed after severe weather overnight.
“We were very proud of that, of having the cross on the side of our church and it is now completely gone, and when w
e repair, we’ll have to come back and replace this entire wall,” member of the church David Baird said.
Baird has been a member of Faith Baptist Church for 18 years. He says he’s seen the church go through a lot.
“Not anything like this that I can remember,” he said.
Even though there’s major damage to the wall, other areas of the church all seem to be in good shape. The only part of the church Baird is worried about is the attic.
“There’s the potential for some water inside there if we get another rainstorm which it sounds like we’re going to,” he said. “So, we need to be careful that we’re not getting any water inside.”
He says first on the list is cleaning up the damage outside.
“We’re just now looking at what we need to do to pick up the pieces,” he said.
The church members have already been in contact with the insurance agency. Now, they’re focused on rebuilding.
“We’ll be fine, it’s just going to take us a while, but it’ll be alright.”
Despite the damage to the building, the church will continue their services like normal.
