At long last, desperately needed scattered showers and storms are making their way into the Carolinas as we close out the final weekend of March. Another round of storms finds us on Monday; while we’ll take whatever rain we can get, we’ll need to watch closely for severe weather to kick off t
he workweek. A Level 3 out of 5 risk has been posted for much of the WCCB Charlotte viewing area Monday afternoon and evening. To be clear, this appears to be a boom/bust scenario for us – models are suggesting this incoming system will be starved of moisture as it approaches the Metro, but any cells that pop up later in the day have the potential to produce large hail, gusty winds, and a few tornadoes.
April Fools’ Day is on Tuesday, but the weather won’t pull any pranks on us. Expect abundant sunshine and highs in the 60s and 70s for most as we start the new month. A weak disturbance may encroach upon the Carolinas on Wednesday, although widespread heavy rain likely won’t be in the cards for us. The back half of the week looks very warm as a tropical ridge of high pressure sets up to our east. Next weekend may bring us the warmest air we’ve seen so far this year as highs appear poised to soar near 90º.
