WARWICK, R.I. (WPRI) — The Rhode Island Airport Corporation (RIAC) announced several changes to "optimize" its public safety department.
The agency said it's currently recruiting a vice president of public safety.
"This individual will have extensive airport experience and background and hav
e served as and been certified as both a police officer and firefighter," RIAC explained. "This individual will also have extensive knowledge of Federal Aviation Administration and Transportation Security Administration regulations."
There are also plans to hire a manager to "oversee day-to-day security operations" starting in April from an agency that focuses in law enforcement administration.
An agreement was made with the Rhode Island State Police to have an extra state trooper at the TSA checkpoint.
RIAC said it's actively recruiting police officers and increasing their starting salary from $84,443 to $90,455 in June.
