FRESNO, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) – The annual Cesar Chavez Commemoration was held on March 27 at Fresno State's Peace Garden and included everything from local speakers to entertainment.
The keynote speaker this year was Raul Moreno. Moreno said the legacy and the teachings of Cesar Chavez are some

"We need to use many of these strategies to continue to defend our community," Moreno said. "He did a lot of great things for the community. He was a visionary. He taught us the way to advocate for our community in many ways."
The commemoration is held each year to honor Chavez who, during his life, established minimum wage standards, wage contracts and safer working conditions for farm workers.
Jose Mundo is the academic advisor for the College Assistance Migrant Program at Fresno State and said these types of events are important for students.
"When we do these types of events, I feel like I'm honoring our students or their families or parents who work in the fields," Mundo said. "Those who are working, packing houses, fisheries, dairies, who do all the labor in the agriculture industry."
The event concluded with people putting flowers at the base of the Cesar Chavez statue. ...read more read less
