(PUEBLO, Colo.) — The Pueblo Zoo is addressing reports that have suggested it may be at risk of closure due to budget cuts.
In 2024, the Zoo addressed that it had a challenging year as it worked to invest in the zoo and meet rising standards to retain the Association of Zoos and Aquariums Accr
editation. The zoo had also previously said that it expected 2025 to be tougher due to city budget cuts creating a $270,000 budget cap.
"Recent reports have suggested that the Pueblo Zoo may be at risk of closing due to budget cuts. We want to reassure our community that this is not the case," Pueblo Zoo posted via Facebook. "While we are facing financial constraints due to reduced funding, our doors remain open, and we are committed to providing exceptional care for our animals and a valuable experience for our guests."
The zoo said that it "must be mindful" of its budget and had to be resourceful by focusing on their "most impactful programs." They further explained that events such as Brew at the Zoo and Zoofari helped them continue their mission.
Tickets are available for the 10th Annual Brew at the Zoo, which will take place on Saturday, April 26.
"We deeply appreciate the support of our visitors, members, and donors, and we encourage everyone to continue visiting and engaging with the zoo," Pueblo Zoo stated. "Together, we can ensure that the Pueblo Zoo remains a vital part of our community for years to come." ...read more read less
