Man found dead at Marin County beach, multiagency search ends

(KRON) -- One person was recovered from the ocean at Rodeo Beach in Marin County on Tuesday afternoon, according to the National Park Service (NPS). The person was declared deceased once he was pulled out of the water.
The United States Coast Guard (USGS), California Highway Patrol (CHP) and the So
uthern Marin Fire District joined in to help with the rescue, according to NPS.
The deceased person's identity is being withheld pending notification of the victim's family. He was approximately in his mid-70s, according to Southern Marin Fire District Battalion Chief Jason Golden.

The multi-agency search ended around 3:30 p.m. -- about 45 minutes after it began. U.S. Park Rangers cleared people from the beach and took statements from witnesses as part of its search, officials said.
The NPS issued a beach hazard on Monday, warning people about sneaker waves. The beach hazard is in effect until 11 a.m. Wednesday.
"Be aware of sneaker waves when visiting beaches. Never turn your back on the ocean," NPS wrote. "Ocean may appear calm but high energy long period swells will have the power to pull unsuspecting beach goers into the ocean."
