EVERETT, Mass. (WWLP) - The Healey administration has sworn in a new member to the Massachusetts Board of Elementary and Secondary Education.
The Executive Office of Education announced on Tuesday that Dr. Christina Grant was sworn in as a new board member, bringing with her years of experience i
n leadership roles in the education field.
Dr. Grant serves as the Executive Director of the Center for Education Policy Research (CEPR) at Harvard University, where she leads researchers and policymakers in accelerating academics. Grant began her career as a public school teacher in Harlem and has worked her way up to serve in some of the largest school systems in the country.

“We are thrilled to welcome Dr. Christina Grant to the Board of Elementary and Secondary Education,” said Education Secretary Dr. Patrick Tutwiler. “Her leadership and deep commitment to evidence-based policy will be an invaluable asset as we continue to strengthen our education system and advance opportunities for all Massachusetts students.”
Throughout her distinguished career, she has taken on roles such as the Chief of Charter Schools and Innovation for the School District of Philadelphia and the State Superintendent of Education for the District of Columbia. As superintendent, Dr. Grant led the first revision of social studies standards in 20 years and directed an investment of $100 million toward post-pandemic academic recovery programs.
“Joining the Massachusetts Board of Elementary and Secondary Education is a remarkable opportunity to contribute to a vision of transformative education for all students,” Dr. Grant said. “I am committed to leveraging my experience in evidence-based policy and systems leadership to ensure every student in the Commonwealth is equipped to succeed in our ever-evolving global landscape.”
Grant holds a bachelor's degree from Hofstra University, a master's degree in organizational leadership from Teacher's College, Columbia University, a master's degree in teaching and adolescent reading from Fordham University, and a doctorate in education with a focus on organizational leadership from the University of Pennsylvania.
