RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- Cherry blossom season is upon us again! The National Park Service (NPS) has announced the projected peak bloom period of the Yoshino cherry blossoms at the National Mall -- and it's just days away.
Peak bloom is expected to take place between March 28 and March 31, just a
year and a few days after last year's projected peak bloom season.
According to NPS, 70% of the Yoshino cherry blossoms are open during what is defined as the peak bloom date, which varies each year depending on the weather.
Peak bloom usually occurs between the last week of March and the first week of April and lasts for several days. However, it's hard to predict peak bloom more than 10 days in advance.

While most popular cherry blossom spots are found in Northern Virginia, the Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden is a great place to visit for those in Richmond. A full list of cherry blossom locations can be found on the Virginia Tourism website.
