VISALIA, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) - Eight people were cited in Visalia following a Contractors State License Board (CSLB) investigation that revealed contractors bidding on projects and advertising illegally, per officials on Monday.
According to the CSLB, they recently conducted an undercover sting in
Visalia targeting unlicensed contractors with the assistance of the Tulare County District Attorney's Office.
The sting took place on Feb. 26. Officials say eight people were cited as a result of bidding on projects that required a state contractor's license— one of those projects was a $6,000 bid for landscaping.
According to officials, a contractor's license is required for projects valued at more than $1,000, including labor and materials. Additionally, any project that requires workers also needs a permit.
The CLSB says the ones who were cited could face potential legal consequences such as six months in jail and a $5,000 fine. Some also face charges for advertising construction services of over $1,000 without a valid license.
The CLSB said, "Unlicensed individuals can only advertise for jobs valued at under $1,000 and must clearly disclose that they are not licensed."
