Severe weather causes power outages, school closures, and flight delays

BATON ROUGE, La. (Louisiana First) — Severe weather swept through the Baton Rouge area Monday, causing power outages, school closures, flight delays, and road closures.
Flight delays
The Baton Rouge Airport reported winds of 43 mph with gusts up to 78 mph just before 7:30 a.m..
Two Amer
ican Airlines flights were delayed until 10:30 a.m. due to the severe weather.
AA5612 to Charlotte (originally scheduled for 7:22 a.m.).
AA5627 to Washington, D.C. (originally scheduled for 7:00 a.m.).
School disruptions
The storm also affected multiple school districts:
Pointe Coupee Parish:
Livonia High School and Valverda Elementary School dismissed students early at 11 a.m. due to power outages.
East Baton Rouge Parish (EBR) Schools:
A few buses experienced slight delays.
Villa del Rey briefly lost power but it was restored.
Iberville Parish:
North Iberville Elementary School and North Iberville High School switched to remote learning for a continuous learning day due to a power outage.
Road closures and power outages
Pointe Coupee Parish:
Downed trees and power lines closed La Hwy 411.
Livingston Parish:
Multiple roads affected by downed trees and power lines, including:
Highway 449
Bend Road
Highway 63
Mack Road
