Shooting suspect who befriended his victim arrested in Fresno, police say

FRESNO, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) – A shooting suspect who police say became friends with his victim was arrested on Thursday after shooting at the victim's home, according to police.
The Fresno Police Department reported that on Sunday shortly after 1:30 a.m. officers responded to a shooting at the i
ntersection of Gettysburg Avenue and First Street, along with a four-round ShotSpotter activation.
Officials say that officers found evidence of the shooting, including three bullet holes in the outside wall of an apartment. During the investigation, officers say the victim told officers that the day before, around 1:00 p.m., an unknown person came to the residence and befriended the victim.
At the end of the encounter, police say the victim and the suspect argued. The suspect warned the victim to be careful because he intended to return to his house later. The victim reported that at around 1:30 a.m., the same person returned, banging on the victim's door and demanding that the victim come outside.
The victim walked to the front door and told the suspect to leave. As the victim was walking back to his room, police say he heard three loud bangs, which he believed to be gunshots.
Police say on Tuesday detectives say they were able to identify the suspect in the shooting as Steven Flores Estrada.
On Thursday detectives were able to track Estrada, who was wanted and believed to be armed and dangerous, Police responded to a home near Madison and Maple avenues.
Police say they surrounded the home and called out Estrada. While officers made announcements at the residence, Estrada emerged from a detached garage, fled toward the rear alley, and attempted to resist arrest.
Detectives say Estrada was subsequently located at another residence and was apprehended by officers and a police canine.
Estrada was arrested, and officers reported finding a black Glock 34 9mm handgun. He was taken to the Fresno County Jail on suspicion of charges related to the incident. ...read more read less
