(KRON) -- The Oakland Roots Soccer Club have sold over 24,000 tickets to their home opener on Saturday. The team, which will make its debut Saturday at the iconic Oakland Coliseum, is already set to smash its previous attendance record.
Standard operating capacity for the Roots at the Coliseum was
set at 15,000 for this season. However, with 24,500 tickets already sold, the Roots have extended capacity for Saturday's game against San Antonio FC.

The final 1,000 tickets up for sale are now open in the old left field, the Roots announced on Thursday. While they will be up on top of the action, they will offer an unobstructed view of the North goal.

No further tickets will be made available for Saturday's match, the team said. Should the team succeed in selling out the entire 26,000 tickets, Saturday's home opener would be the highest-attended sporting event in the Bay Area this weekend and set a record for the highest-attended single game for any club in the Root's league, the USL Championship.
"We can't wait for Saturday and to once again show that Oakland is a sports town," said Roots President Lindsay Barenz. "The cap for capacity will be 26,000 to ensure the best possible experience for our fans."
Saturday's home opener kicks off at 7 p.m. and will feature half-time entertainment from Bay Area rap icon Too Short and post-match fireworks. ...read more read less
