VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) -- The Virginia Beach Police Department conducted a search at two smoke shops along Virginia Beach Boulevard in connection with the illegal distribution of marijuana.
According to officials, on March 14, officers investigated two smoke shops in the 5400 and 3600 blocks
of Virginia Beach Boulevard as part of an ongoing narcotics investigation.
During the search, officers seized raw marijuana, marijuana products and synthetic cannabinoids. The case remains under investigation, police said.

According to Virginia law, hemp and THCA products are required to have a THC content of .3% or lower in order to be sold. Anything over the legal limit is considered marijuana. Police said they believe that an increase of burglaries to smoke shops is directly linked to a presence of illegal THC products.
"We will continue to investigate and hold accountable those who engage in illegal distribution, as well as those who commit related crimes," the VBPD wrote in a statement. "Our commitment remains steadfast in ensuring a safe and secure community for all residents and businesses in Virginia Beach."
