Road closures for Holyoke St. Patrick's Road Race and Parade weekend

HOLYOKE, Mass. (WWLP) - Thousands of people will be in Holyoke this weekend for the annual St. Patrick's Road Race and Parade prompting several road closures beginning on Friday.
Drivers are encouraged to find alternate routes as certain streets will be closed throughout the weekend. Starting Fri
day at around 3 p.m., the City of Holyoke will close Maple Street from Hampden Street to Lyman Street. Chestnut Street was also closed on Friday afternoon from Dwight Street to Hampden Street.

Beginning early Saturday morning, several of the following areas will be closed to drivers:
7 a.m.
High Street from Lyman Street to Dwight Street
Maple Street from Lyman Street to Dwight Street
Chestnut Street from Lyman Street to Dwight Street
Hampden Street from Elm Street to High Street
9 a.m.
Lyman Street from Chestnut Street to Front Street
Hampden Street from Elm Street to High Street
12:30 p.m. – Road Race Course
Maple Street from Lyman Street to South Street
South Street from Maple Street to Northampton Street
Northampton Street from South Street to Westfield Road
Westfield Road from Northampton Street to Homestead Avenue
Homestead Avenue from Westfield Road to Cherry Street
Cherry Street from Homestead Avenue to Northampton Street
Beech Street from Northampton Street to Hampden Street
Hampden Street from Beech Street to Maple Street
The Road Race kicks off a 1 p.m. from the starting line at the intersection of Maple and Lyman Streets in a series of waves. The two-mile walk will then proceed, at around 1:30 p.m. Streets along the race route will open as the last runners proceed.

Sunday morning, Exit 14 off I-91 Exit 14 (at Cherry Street near Homestead Avenue) off ramps will be closed beginning at 9:45 a.m., the City of Holyoke says. The State Police may also close exits 15 and 16 on I-91.
At around 10 a.m. the following roads on the parade route will be closed to drivers:
Beginning at Northampton Street and Whiting Farms Road (Kmart plaza)
Northampton Street from Whiting Farms Road to Beech Street
Beech Street from Northampton Street to Appleton Street
Appleton Street from Northampton Street to High Street
High Street from Appleton Street to Hampden Street
The 72nd Holyoke St. Patrick’s Parade will kick off at 11:10 a.m. on Sunday, broadcast live at noon on WWLP-22News, and streamed on WWLP.com.
The broadcast team will feature veteran 22News Anchor Rich Tettemer and Parade Committee representative Sheila Moreau as primary hosts. At the same time, 22News Anchor Taylor Knight will provide on-the-ground coverage, featuring real-time interviews with participants and spectators.
