WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW)—The NCAA Tournament is underway in Wichita, and one Wichita State University basketball legend said that Wichita is the perfect city to host the Big Tournament.
"Wichita is a basketball sports town but more or less basketball. So, it's very, very exciting to have the madnes
s here," Lynbert "Cheese" Johnson, a WSU basketball legend, said.
The Shocker legend still remembers the fans flooding the streets for the NCAA Tournament in 2018.
"It was super crowded. You had to walk sideways to get to where you needed to go. We had a lot of fun, and that's basketball for you," Johnson said.
He speaks from his own experience, explaining the area crowds create a perfect atmosphere for players.
What makes Wichita a perfect destination for NCAA Tournament
"When I played at Wichita State, Wichita, Kansas, has the best fans if you ask me. They're really, really into their basketball here, which is a plus," Johnson said.
Even outside the arena, he says the city's growth makes it a great place to host an event as big as this.
"Downtown here has a lot of activities going on in terms of eating and just getting used to the city. When you come to Wichita, you are going to have a great time because there's great people here, and now you have big-time sports coming here, so that's going to bring a different type of energy to the town," Johnson said.
Great sites, great sports, and great souls. Johnson feels the fans will fall in love with his city.
"I relocated back here from Atlanta, Georgia, and it's for a reason why I did that because the people from here in Wichita, Kansas, are so heartwarming, loving people, and it's going to be like home, so we might have some new transplants coming in," he said. ...read more read less
