BOSTON (WWLP) - ESPN reports that the Boston Celtics have been sold for $6.1 billion, the largest amount ever for a North American sports franchise. The team will be purchased by William Chisholm, a Massachusetts native who founded the California-based private equity firm Symphony Technology Grou p. This comes months after the current ownership group led by the Grousbeck family announced their intention to sell 51% of the franchise. Current managing governor Wyc Grousbeck is expected to remain in his role through the transition.
