Man accused in driveby shooting of woman, 2yearold girl in North Carolina

LAURINBURG, N.C. (WBTW) — A 21-year-old man wanted in connection with a shooting that wounded a mother and her 2-year-old in Laurinburg turned himself in and was denied bond, police said on Tuesday.
Kalan Day was wanted on charges of two counts of attempted first-degree murder, three counts of
discharging a firearm into occupied property, and one count of discharging a firearm in city limits. His bond was denied Tuesday morning.
In another development in the case on Tuesday, police said investigators determined that one of the people in custody was not involved in the shooting. They and two others — 16-year-old Henry Anderson and 24-year-old Angela Pegues — were initially arrested on multiple charges tied to the shooting and denied bond.
Anderson, who has been charged as an adult, is accused of two counts of attempted murder; three counts of discharging a weapon into occupied property; discharging a firearm in city limits; and possession of a firearm by a minor.
Laurinburg police announced their arrests of Avery and Pegues, both of Laurinburg, late Sunday night. Police said Anderson surrendered himself to deputies at 3:15 p.m. Sunday.
Pegues, Day's sister, is charged with two counts of first-degree attempted murder; three counts of discharging a firearm into occupied property; one count of discharging a firearm in city limits; felony obstruction; accessory before the fact to attempted murder; and accessory after the fact to attempted murder.
At the time of their arrest, The previously accused suspect was charged with two counts of first-degree attempted murder; three counts of discharging a firearm into occupied property; and discharging a firearm in city limits. Police have not said why they were arrested nor how it was determined that they were not involved.
The shooting happened just before 1 a.m. in the 400 block of Hood Drive. Police said the child and their 23-year-old mother suffered gunshot wounds. The woman was taken to Scotland Memorial Hospital and released, while the 2-year-old was taken to another medical facility and said to be in critical but stable condition.
Authorities said the victims were sitting in a vehicle when another one pulled alongside it and a passenger began firing at them. ...read more read less
