Are you looking for a summer job? Do you enjoy the outdoors and helping people? The Baltimore City Department of Recreation and Parks is looking to fill over 150 lifeguard positions as it expands access to pool centers this summer.Rec & Parks will hold its annual Ready, Set, Hire Aquatics recrui
tment event on Saturday, March 22, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Middle Branch Fitness and Wellness Center to hire lifeguards and other seasonal aquatic staff for the 2025 summer season. There are four new City pools anticipated to open in 2025, and those (like all) pools need lifeguards, swimming pool operators, and community aides to help them run smoothly. Swimming pool operators coordinate the daily operations of each public pool. Community aides support the pool operators in their work and ensure facilities stay safe and clean.Minimum age requirement for lifeguards is 15, and pay starts at $16 per hour. At the recruitment event, applicants can interview with Aquatics staff and take an in-pool skills assessment. “We’re encouraging people to come out on March 22, even if you haven’t passed the certification yet,” said Nikki Cobbs, chief of aquatics at Baltimore City Department of Recreation & Parks. “We are serious about helping Baltimore teens discover their love of swimming and lifeguarding and make a positive impact in their communities.”The Aquatics Division provides free lifeguard training and skills development clinics for teens who commit to working for Aquatics for the upcoming summer. Its Lifeguard Club is a peer-to-peer program that helps prospective lifeguards who have not passed the certification test build confidence, improve their social skills, and learn in a judgement-free atmosphere. The Lifeguard Club introduced youth to lifeguard jobs and taught them proper swimming and lifesaving skills. It meets at Middle Branch Fitness and Wellness Center every Wednesday and Saturday, Cahill Fitness and Wellness Center every Tuesday and Wednesday and Callowhill Aquatic Center every Thursday and Friday. For those who commit to working at Rec & Parks for the summer, the Lifeguard Club offers free American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification courses at Callowhill Recreation Center on April 14, 15, 16 and 17, and at Middle Branch Fitness and Wellness Center on the same dates for shallow water lifeguards.Rec & Parks encourages applicants to complete an online application before attending the March 22 event.
