American Idol star Noah Thompson visits Chesterfield County Jail inmates in HARP program

CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- Singer-songwriter and season 20 winner of American Idol Noah Thompson visited inmates in Chesterfield County Jail's HARP Program on Tuesday.

urney and sing a few of his songs.
According to the Chesterfield County Sheriff's Office, the visit was part of a mission to bring advocates, allies and stakeholders together to create a resilient environment for recovery.

"Life was precious, but life was a struggle. It wasn't about learning the Golden Rule, it was about learning how to survive," Thompson said.
The sheriff's office said the "One Day Tonight" singer's visit was not a coincidence, as Thompson reportedly grew up in a home where addiction was prevalent. Thompson shared his story of survival, resilience and how he got to where he is today with the inmates.
"We are honored to have Noah come visit HARP and share his story which is onesimilar to many of those in HARP but also one of resilience and overcoming which is such a positive message to our participants," said Chesterfield County Sheriff Karl Leonard. "Music is one of the cornerstones to helping overcome trauma which is essential to achieving long-term and life-long recovery." ...read more read less
