MPD: 18yearold critically shot in Muncie, teen arrested

MUNCIE, Ind. — The Muncie Police Department arrested a 17-year-old male early Friday morning after a shooting left an 18-year-old in critical condition.
According to a press release from MPD, at around 3:12 a.m., a patrol Sergeant observed a vehicle with no headlights on traveling at a high rate of speed. It was heading west on University Ave. at Reserve St.
MPD wrote that the Sergeant then conducted a traffic stop, in which some of the vehicle's occupants stated the front passenger had been shot. This was reported to be an 18-year-old male, who was transported to an area hospital in critical condition.
After investigating, MPD said that they found there were five male occupants in the vehicle: four being 18 years old and one being 17.
That 17-year-old was sitting in the backseat, handling a gun. MPD said the teen discharged the gun and injured the front passenger. He has since been detained.
