WAUPACA, Wis. (WFRV) - City of Waupaca officials say the gas leak that affected over 200 local homes has been fully resolved after working overnight to fix the issue. According to a release from the Waupaca Area Fire District, around 10:10 p.m. on January 23, a gas main impacting 202 homes was shut off. Those impacted were in the areas south of Leighton, north of Granite Street, east of Bailey Street, and west of Pleasant Street. Ice report as big ice fishing events, sturgeon spearing nears in northeast Wisconsin Affected residents had a temporary loss of natural gas service, including heat for much of the night and into Friday morning. A second release was sent out around 3:35 a.m. saying the gas leak at the corner of North Morton Street and North Street has been fully resolved, with gas service being restored to all residents affected by the incident. Officials say it is safe for all residents to return home if they had left. WE Energies crews will also be in the area going door to door to assist anyone who needs help relighting pilot lights for gas furnaces.
