Weekend Warm Up
Rain Chances Return Monday
Soaring to the 60s next week
Discussion:
Temperatures in Charlotte rose above freezing yesterday for the first time since Monday evening. The 67 hour consecutive stretch of freezing temperatures was the 2nd longest in the last 30 years, only behind an 88 hour stretch back in February 1996. While impressive over the last 30 years, it doens’t crack the top 20 coldest stretches of all time.
The Arctic air mass finally eases it’s grip as high pressure begins to move south today. Highs will top out in the mid 40s with temperatures climbing toward the low 50s by Sunday. A few flurries will linger across the high country this afternoon, but the rest of the weekend is looking dry for the entire region. Rain chances return early Monday as a weak system approaches from the west. While there’s a low end chance for a brief rain/snow mix for the foothills and mountains early on, most of the area will see light rain clearing by midday.
Temps continue to climb next week with spring-like warmth to end the month of Jnaury. Highs climb to the 60s by mid-week. Another system will approach the region late week that could bring some wet weather and cooler temperatures, but as of now keeping low end rain chances in play.
