Remaining monkeys recaptured months after escaping Yemassee research facility

YEMASSEE, S.C. (WCBD) -- The remaining few monkeys that escaped from a Lowcountry research facility last November have been recaptured, according to officials.
Four had still been on the loose as of Nov. 27, but Alpha Genesis CEO Greg Westergaard said Friday that all 43 monkeys were safely back at the facility and appeared to be in good health.
"It was real team and community effort," Westergaard said in a Jan. 24 statement, thanking the public for their help.
The nearly four dozen rhesus macaques escaped the facility on Nov. 6 after an employee failed to secure an enclosure. The monkeys primarily stayed in a wooded area near the facility.
