ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) – Crews with the Cheshire Fire Department say three cats died during a fire Friday evening at a residence on Cooley Road near N Bloomfield Road in the town of Canandaigua.
When Cheshire and East Bloomfield firefighters arrived to the scene they extinguished the fire in the living room. While the fire was contained to the living room, the home sustained a significant amount of smoke damage and was deemed unlivable.
The Red Cross is providing assistance to one adult and two minors who were displaced. The Ontario County Emergency Management office is still investigating the fire.
"The quick actions of the homeowner, who closed exterior doors while exiting the home, significantly helped prevent the fire from spreading to other areas of the structure," Cheshire Fire Chief Chris Brown said.
Canandaigua Ambulance, Ontario County Sheriff's Office, and Ontario County Emergency Management responded to the fire.
