ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) – The driver of the motorcycle involved in a fatal November crash in Newark has turned himself in Thursday. According to the Newark Police Department, two people were on the motorcycle on November 8 around 4:44 p.m. when it drove onto a sidewalk along West Union Street. The driver tried to get back onto the road, but lost control of the motorcycle, throwing 36-year-old Keley Smith-Krocke off. A member of the Newark Volunteer Fire Department was performing CPR on Smith-Krocke when NPD arrived and began to assist. She was taken to Newark Wayne Hospital, where she was pronounced dead. On January 23, the driver Justin Krocke, age 37, turned himself in to Newark Police with his attorney. Officials say an investigation determined that Krocke was driving the motorcycle while impaired by drugs and drove onto the sidewalk in an attempt to pass cars stopped in the roadway on West Union Street who were waiting for the lead vehicle to make a left turn. Krocke was processed on charges of Manslaughter (2nd), Vehicular Manslaughter (2nd), Driving a Motor Vehicle while Impaired by Drugs, Reckless Driving, and numerous other traffic violations.
