CAROLINE COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- A person is dead and another is fighting for their life after a Thursday evening crash in Caroline County. The crash took place the evening of Thursday, Jan. 23, on Route 1 near Cool Water Drive near Lake Caroline, according to Virginia State Police (VSP). It involved two vehicles: a pick-up truck and an SUV. According to state police, the driver of the pick-up truck has died. The driver of the SUV has serious, life-threatening injuries. No other people were in either vehicle at the time of the crash. As of 8 p.m., the road was shut down in both directions, with detours in place to help drivers avoid the scene, according to the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT).
