NORTH DAKOTA (KXNET) — A new bill has been proposed which would increase the speed limit on certain highways, here in North Dakota. House Bill 1298 suggests raising the maximum speed from 75 miles an hour to 80 miles an hour, but only on access-controlled, paved, and divided multi-lane interstate highways, unless there are specific conditions that restrict or require a different speed. Lobbyist Jeff Simon is in favor, saying that by raising the speed limit, they would actually see less crashes. State lawmakers mull bill to give more protection to student victims of sexual assault "You know, from my observation, and I think law enforcement would verify this, the reason we see accidents on the interstate is largely lane departures," Simon said. "You know, passing movements, and I think if more vehicles are driving closer to the same speed, we'll have fewer passing movements obviously and ultimately more safety." Today, the bill passed on the House floor. Up next, it has to make its way through the Senate. Close Thanks for signing up! Watch for us in your inbox. Subscribe Now Today's Top Stories SIGN UP NOW
