GRANT COUNTY, Wis. (WFRV) - Deputies in southwest Wisconsin are warning residents of a scam circulating through Buy/Sell/Trade Facebook groups about a serial killer going door to door. A Facebook post from the Grant County Sheriff's Office states that on the morning of January 23 deputies were made aware of a concerning Facebook post making its way through some Buy/Sell/Trade groups. Deputies say the posts were warning people about a 'serial killer' named Jeffrey Thomas who was going door to door in the area and asking for help to gain access to homes so he could cause harm to the residents. One man dies following fiery crash with Amazon delivery van in Winnebago County The release noted that "after some quick research" deputies determined the threat to be a scam and they had not gotten any calls about a 'Jeffrey Thomas' going door to door. "As always, if you have any questions or believe you may have been targeted or victimized by a scam, please contact your local law enforcement agency for assistance," the Grant County Sheriff's Office's post concluded.
