(SOUTHERN COLORADO) — The region is currently recovering from a dangerously cold blast of Arctic air. The frigid cold air mass moved in on Saturday, Jan. 18, and stayed through most of Tuesday, Jan. 21. At one point temperatures were nearly 35 degrees below average with highs on Sunday and Monday in the single digits. Now that the Arctic air has moved out of the region, you may be wondering what the next few months could hold for Southern Colorado. The Climate Prediction Center (CPC) tracks patterns and trends that may hint at what a certain stretch of time may look like. The products that they put out are not forecasts, but rather outlooks that can give everyone a general idea of what to expect. Use the slider to compare products for the month of February For February, the CPC is calling for above-average temperatures here in most of Colorado. This would be quite refreshing for those who did not appreciate the recent blast of cold air. A reminder, these outlooks do not forecast for each day but rather indicate what the overall picture may look like. The CPC is also hinting at below-average moisture for February which may lead to some dry conditions. Use the slider to compare products for the month of February Looking even further into the next few months, temperatures are shaping up to be about normal. According to the CPC graphics, Southwestern Colorado may be a bit above average but most of the region is expected to be fairly normal. The moisture outlook for February, March, and April looks quite similar to that of just February. The same general areas can expect above average moisture and Southern Colorado can once again expect drier than average conditions. These outlooks from the CPC are updated fairly regularly so be sure to check back in with the FOX21 storm team frequently.
