Son arrested in connection with mother's death in Fresno, police say

FRESNO, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) - The son of a woman who was found dead at her residence on Monday in Fresno was arrested in connection to her death, the Fresno Police Department said.
Police say on Jan. 20 at 3:41 p.m., officers responded to the area of East Cortland Avenue and Ninth Street to conduct a welfare check on 62-year-old Shirla Ramirez, who failed to show up to work.
According to officers, Shirla was found inside her residence, unresponsive.
EMS responded to the scene and police say that based on her injuries observed by officers, her death appeared to be suspicious in nature.
According to police, homicide detectives worked with the county's coroner's office and found her injuries to be caused by blunt force trauma and several lacerations to the upper body. Police say her death was determined to be a homicide.
During their investigation, police say detectives learned that Shirla resided at the residence alone and had called out from work the Friday prior claiming family issues.

Police say, that detectives were able to identify her son, 35-year-old Brad Ramirez as the person responsible for Shirla's death.
Officers report Brad was taken into custody on Wednesday, Jan. 22, after being discharged from CRMC on an unrelated matter. Brad was booked into the Fresno County Jail.
The motive behind Shirla's death is unknown and this is an ongoing investigation.
