CSFD adds new tower truck to fleet after 40 years
Jan 22, 2025
(COLORADO SPRINGS) — The Colorado Springs Fire Department (CSFD) is adding a new apparatus to its fleet, and the custom build is the first in over 40 years.
CSFD will be adding a new tower truck to its fleet, Tower 1, a piece mid-mount 100-foot tower custom-built to the needs of the community and Colorado Springs firefighters. The tower has been in production since January 2022.
According to CSFD, this is the first time in over 40 years the department will have a tower truck in the fleet. This new piece of equipment will help in a number of different technical rescues and saving more lives during fires. The "basket on the end of the ladder allows firefighters to conduct multiple rescues at once without making the victim or victims climb down a fully extended ladder form high or low locations.
The truck will run out of Station 1 located on South Weber in downtown Colorado Springs, due to the high number of buildings that are three stories or taller, which increases the likelihood for multiple rescues during an incident.
Firefighters are currently working on getting trained to use the new piece of equipment, and fire department mechanics are unfitting the truck to department specifications.
The tower is set to go in service in February.
