Gabriel Rucker, Sarah Minnick, and Coquine are among the longlisted Sarah Minnick (of Lovely’s Fifty Fifty), Gabriel Rucker (Le Pigeon), and Mount Tabor restaurant Coquine are among the Oregon chefs and businesses named to the semifinalist list of the 2025 James Beard Awards, the James Beard Foundation announced today. The annual awards are considered among the highest honors in the restaurant and food industry, with a shorter list of nominees to be announced on April 2.
Coquine made the longlist in the Outstanding Restaurant category, while Jinju Patisserie (in Outstanding Bakery) and Scotch Lodge (Outstanding Bar) were also recognized. Joel Gunderson (of Heavenly Creatures) was named in the new category of Outstanding Professional in Beverage Service, acknowledging a beverage professional who has, among other things, “set high standards [and] demonstrates creativity and consistency in excellence, innovation, hospitality.” In the Best Chef: Northwest and Pacific category, a slew of Oregon chefs made the semifinalist list — including Portland’s Thomas Pisha-Duffly of Gado Gado and Ryan Roadhouse of Nodoguro.
The 2025 ceremony comes on the heels of a winning year for Portland in 2024: Last year, Langbaan, the Thai tasting menu spot from Akkapong “Earl” Ninsom, was awarded the Outstanding Restaurant prize, the first in Oregon to win in the awards’ history. Gregory Gourdet followed up his 2023 Best New Restaurant win with another medal in the Best Chef: Northwest and Pacific category. Though they didn’t ultimately take home medals, Jinju Patisserie and Minnick were nominated in the Outstanding Bakery and Outstanding Chef categories respectively.
Finalists in these categories will be announced on April 2. Winners will be awarded at the James Beard Restaurant and Chef Awards Ceremony on Monday, June 16 at the Lyric Opera of Chicago. Here now, is the full longlist of semifinalists from Oregon:
