FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) An "all-time record" amount of travelers chose to start their journey from Fort Wayne International Airport (FWA) in 2024.
According to the press release, FWA welcomed more fliers in 2024 than any other year. The airport saw 856,803 fly in and take off from the airport in 2024, a 7.6% increase over 2023. An 8% increase was seen in those flying out of FWA, totaling at 430,485 passengers over 2023.
The airport has also increased opportunities to fly. Flight numbers have gone up by 7.8% along with seat availability at 7.4% year-over-year in the market.
FWA saw a 19.5% increase in flights and a 21.9% increase in seats in December 2024 over 2023's travel numbers.
With FWA's uptick during the holiday travel season, Scott Hinderman, Executive Director of Airports, said he wants to see community members continue to catch more flights in January and beyond.
“It is exciting as the community’s airport to see people choosing to fly local and use FWA as our staff works hard to make the airport the best it can be," Hinderman said. "We look forward to working with our community and airline partners to continue the growth and momentum in 2025.”
The increase in business the airport has received marks 2024 as the second consecutive year of passenger growth since the COVID-19 pandemic.
FWA continues to work on the East Terminal Expansion project, which it hopes to complete in June 2025.
