(BCN) -- Antioch City Attorney Thomas Lloyd Smith has resigned, city officials announced Tuesday morning. Derek Cole, of the law firm Cole Huber LLP, will serve as the interim city attorney until a permanent city attorney is appointed. Alameda County supervisors inching closer to pick for DA "The City Council would like to express its gratitude to Mr. Smith for his service and dedication to our city over the past five and a half years and wish him well in his future endeavors," the city said in a statement. The council hired Smith in February 2019 and his retirement was effective this past Friday. Before working in Antioch, Smith was assistant city attorney for San Leandro and did work for El Cerrito, Larkspur and the Central Contra Costa Sanitary District. Cole is currently the city attorney for Oakley. He served as assistant city attorney in Antioch in 2015-2016 and 2017-2019. Copyright © 2025 Bay City News, Inc
