(BEULAH, Colo.) — The Colorado Parks and Wildlife (CPW) Lion Team is using specialty-trained dogs to haze mountain lions in Beulah on Tuesday, Jan. 21, in an attempt to push them out of the community. According to the Beulah Fire Protection and Ambulance District, the goal is to push the lions back into the mountain and their natural food sources away from human populations. If a lion climbs into the trees, CPW will tranquilize the lion and collar it for better tracking and data. CPW hopes this approach will eliminate the need to euthanize the lions who have moved into residential areas. Dogs moving through properties in the areas are likely tracking the lions' scent, and the community is asked to keep pets indoors as much as possible on Tuesday to let the team do their work. They do not need any assistance and are highly trained for the event.
