Skycam tracks snowfall in East Baton Rouge Parish

BATON ROUGE, La. (Louisiana First) — The Greater Baton Rouge area is expected to see roughly between 2 and 7 inches of snow on Tuesday.
The Louisiana First News' sky camera gives a first-hand look at the snowfall in East Baton Rouge Parish.
According to weather models, starting during the pre-dawn hours, there will be a wintry mix of sleet, freezing rain and snow. Around mid-morning, the mix is expected to transition into snow. By the afternoon, the Greater Baton Rouge area should be covered in snow.
Temperatures throughout Tuesday are expected to remain between 26 degrees and 32 degrees in Baton Rouge. By early Wednesday morning, the temperature will drop as low as 15 degrees.
A cold weather advisory has been issued for East Baton Rouge Parish effective through 6 p.m., Tuesday, Jan. 21. A winter storm warning is in place for the parish through midnight Wednesday, Jan. 22.
Schools and offices announced closures for Tuesday, Jan. 21 and Wednesday, Jan. 22.

“Let me emphasize this, the state has been working for over eight days to do everything in its power to prepare for this winter storm and I urge you to heed what we are saying and what you’re local officials are saying as well,” said Gov. Jeff Landry.
State Climatologist Jay Grymes said 4 inches or more of snow can be expected in south Louisiana. He said the state could shut down for a day or two once snow totals reach over 4 inches.
