Le Moyne women’s basketball bests Stonehill in MLK Day matchup

Syracuse, N.Y. – Graduate guard Megan Bodziony (Wakefield, R.I./St. Andrew’s School/Fordham/Bryant) converted a driving layup with two seconds remaining in the fourth quarter to lift the Le Moyne College women’s basketball team to a 69-67 victory over the Stonehill College Skyhawks in Northeast Conference action at Ted Grant Court on Martin Luther King Jr. Day. Four Dolphins scored in double figures during the team’s second consecutive home conference victory, led by Bodziony who tallied a career-high 21 points on 8-of-13 shooting from the field, and 4-of-5 from the free throw line. Junior guard Sierra Linnin (Valley Cottage, N.Y./Albertus Magnus) recorded 13 points to follow up her career-high 28-point outing during Saturday’s win over Chicago State, while graduate forward Haedyn Roberts (Holland Patent, N.Y./Holland Patent) scored in double figures for the fourth consecutive game with 13 points, seven rebounds, two assists, two blocks and a steal. Senior forward Brianna Williams (Brampton, Ontario/Southwest Academy/Hartford) contributed 10 points and seven rebounds to the Le Moyne cause, sophomore forward Zhara Adeyemi (Brooklyn, N.Y./South Shore) matched her season high of eight points on 4-of-4 shooting from the field, and freshman guard Eli Clark (Oakhurst, N.J./Ocean Township) dished out five assists. Graduate forward Kylie Swider led Stonehill with 20 points on 10-of-15 shooting from the field, senior forward Maureen Stapleton also scored in double figures for the Skyhawks with 10 points in addition to six rebounds and four assists, while sophomore guard Brooke Paquette tallied a game-high nine rebounds and a game-high seven assists. The Dolphins shot 16-of-20 from the line on Monday, compared to 4-of-5 for the Skyhawks. Le Moyne has now taken more free throws than its opponent in each of its five conference matchups so far. The Dolphins are averaging 21 free throw attempts per game during the stretch. Williams shot 6-of-8 from the line Monday against the Skyhawks after recording career highs in free throws made (7) and free throws attempted (10) during Saturday’s win over CSU. Stonehill entered the contest with a 4-0 record against NEC opponents, one of just two remaining unbeaten teams in league play, but Le Moyne shot 11-of-12 from the line during the fourth quarter and outscored the Skyhawks 21-15 during the frame to come away with the victory and improve to 2-0 at home in conference action. After scoring a season-best 77 points during their first conference win over Chicago State on Saturday, the Dolphins produced their second-highest points total of the season on Monday with 69 points against the Skyhawks. Le Moyne’s .460 field goal percentage during the win is the second highest mark for the team this season. Following back-to-back home conference wins, Le Moyne will travel to New Britain to take on Central Connecticut State University Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
