INDIANAPOLIS -- A driver managed to find his way to safety after his vehicle slid off the roadway and onto a frozen pond on the south side of Indianapolis Monday night. According to the Public Safety Communications Application Portal, firefighters with the Indianapolis Fire Department were called around 8:12 p.m. to the area of W. Southport Road and Wellingshire Boulevard for a dive rescue. Officers with the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department were also called to the area around the same time after receiving reports that a vehicle had slid off the road. IFD Battalion Chief Rita Reith confirmed that the vehicle had a single occupant and that he managed to exit the vehicle and safely walk to the shore without any assistance from responding authorities. The dive rescue was then disregarded. FOX59/CSB4 crews on the scene observed a vehicle that was stuck on the frozen pond.
