A 15 Fury Alert Day remains in effect for our Tuesday as wind chills continue at dangerously low levels. 15 Fury Alert Days issued for extreme cold In addition to our 15 Fury Alert Day, a Cold Weather Advisory, issued by the National Weather Service, remains in effect until 10 AM Wednesday for this dangerous cold. Why you’ll no longer see ‘Wind Chill Warnings’ this winter After a brief visit with below zero temperatures Monday morning, as low as -3° in Fort Wayne, we returned to positive double-digit air temperatures with highs between 10° and 15° this afternoon. Wind chills made it feel like below zero through the day and there is no change to having below zero wind chills for Tuesday. Actual air temperatures fall to just slightly below zero by early Tuesday morning, too. It is critical to protect yourself from these dangerously low temperatures, as frostbite on exposed skin can occur in as little as 30 minutes. Wear multiple layers of insulated material, stay dry, and limit outdoor activities today and tomorrow, if possible. Many schools have closed, or switched to virtual learning. School Closings and Delays | WANE 15 There is a slight chance for scattered snow showers on Tuesday, but accumulation is not expected to be more than a coating. A few snowflakes lay down a coating of new snow accumulation on Tuesday. Tuesday will be colder than Monday. In fact, highs will only be in the mid-range of single digits. With breezy conditions, westerly gusts up to 20 mph, wind chills be as low as -20° in the morning hours, to -10° at our best in the afternoon. It is another day where it is so important that you stay bundled up and limit your time outside! Below zero temps start off a third consecutive COLD day on Wednesday. It will feel as low as -20° then. However, Wednesday is not a 15 Fury Alert Day because, as the day progresses, we see temperatures and wind chill values rise, taking us out of this week's most intense levels of cold.
