MERCED, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) - More than 30 cats saved from the destruction of the fires devastating Southern California were taken into foster homes by volunteers in Merced on Saturday. Merced SPCA says it collaborated with LA County Animal Services to help shelters overwhelmed by animals rescued from the fires. On Saturday, volunteers willing to foster the cats gathered in Merced and took home supplies donated from the community to help care for them. Merced SPCA says volunteers will foster the cats for six weeks, allowing owners to find their beloved pets. After that, the cats will be available for adoption. Merced SPCA is still looking for fosters and is accepting donations of wet food, towels, bandages, and saline solutions to help care for the rescued cats. Anyone interested in volunteering, donating, or finding out more can visit the Merced SPCA website or call 209-201-1296.
